I would love the opportunity to draw your beloved pet or do a portrait for a friend or family member. All of my portraits are drawn from photographs.
I am currently offering portraits that measure 14 inches wide by 11 inches high. These can be placed into a standard 11×14″ frame or matted with a 2″ mat into a 16×20″ frame. Portraits do not include mats or frames, but I am happy to offer recommendations for you.
If you are interested in a specific size other than 11×14″, feel free to reach out to me and we can discuss what you are looking for.
One portrait with one subject is $300. Please contact me about pricing for multiple subjects. I accept payment through PayPal and will send you a request once we’ve agreed upon what you are looking for.
I require a 50% deposit up front. The remainder will be due after I have completed your portrait and you have approved it. Once I have received final payment, I will ship or deliver your portrait.
Shipping is additional and depends on your location. Please let me know where your portrait needs to be delivered. If you are local to the Raleigh/Durham, North Carolina area, we can arrange to meet in person if you prefer.
Each portrait takes approximately one month to complete. I will let you know the anticipated turnaround time when you contact me. I may have a waitlist and portraits will be completed in the order they are placed. It’s never too early to think about the holidays!
A high-resolution, in-focus photograph is the key to a detailed portrait. While I can work with photos that are not as high quality, the result will be “softer” and not as detailed.
Try to take a photo of your pet in natural light. The best light can often be found outside on a cloudy day or in the early morning or evening hours. The file size should be several megabytes in size. A photo taken by a smart phone is probably not good enough. If you are not sure if your photo will work, feel free to email me, and I’d be happy to advise you.
I use Faber Castell Polychromos colored pencils and a little white gel pen for highlights. My portraits are drawn on Strathmore archival paper.

If you don’t have an ideal photo
Sometimes it is not possible to get the perfect, high-quality photo, either because your pet has passed away, or you are planning a surprise for someone. I am able to work with photos that need some correction. In the example at right, this portrait was drawn of a dog that had passed away. The photo chosen needed the eye flashes and invisible fence collar removed. If you have any questions about your photo, please reach out to me and we can discuss what I can do.
I have loved both drawing and animals since I was a little kid. In college, I majored in Studio Art, but eventually decided to pursue graphic design as a career. Drawing pet portraits as a part of my business has been a dream of mine for the past two years.
When I’m not working, I spend a lot of time with my dogs Zara, a 5-year-old vizsla, and Colombo, a 1-year-old Rhodesian ridgeback. We enjoy hiking, running, swimming, and exploring the Raleigh metro area.
