Zara, Chris and I traveled to Raleigh, North Carolina this weekend. It’s only about a 4 hour drive from the DC area but it took us 6 hours to get down there on Friday because there were a bunch of accidents on 95 in Northern Virginia.

We stayed with two of Chris’ friends who live outside of Raleigh in Holly Springs. They have a 16-month old baby named James and Zara was fascinated with him. She likes small children because they are right at her height and they tend to drool and/or have food residue on them. She kept trying to lick James’ face but he wasn’t a big fan of that. She would get so happy when she saw him. Her whole body was wiggling and it almost looked like she was smiling.

We drove into Raleigh on Saturday and walked around downtown in an area where there are lots of shops and restaurants. We had Zara with us and she was trying to eat all the junk she found on the ground, including a black hair net and several pieces of gum.

After that, we went to a brewery called Crank Arm. The best part is that they allow dogs inside the brewery as well as on the patio. They don’t serve food, so perhaps that’s why. Everyone was very friendly and Zara was getting lots of attention. She mostly wanted to be outside though, because her newest obsession is hunting shadows and reflections on the ground. I need to take a video of it because it’s very funny to watch. She pounces on the shadows and tries to catch them.

This morning we drove over to Chapel Hill and walked around the campus a bit before having lunch at a friend’s parents’ house. It was a good trip and Zara was relatively well-behaved despite not having any off-lease exercise for the past two days. She is very good in the car and sleeps most of the time.
